View of Wasdale Fells from Irton Pike

Recommended by 13 hikers

This sweet little hill is one of Wainwright’s Outlying Fells in the stunning Lake District National Park. It lies in the far west, the last bastion before the land flattens off entirely to reach the sea. At 751 feet (229 m), it really is wee and ascents are aided further by the presence of a car park immediately below. If you fancy a longer adventure, you can continue upwards to Whin Rigg and Illgill Head, which rise above spectacular Wastwater.

Irton Pike is one of Alfred Wainwright's Outlying Fells of Lakeland. The view to the Wasdale fells is probably the highlight from the summit (you can even see Wast Water if you stand on your tip toes!) but the view over Muncaster Fell towards Black Combe is also impressive.
