Historical indication:

Oosterschelde channel in the Verdronken Land van Zuid-Beveland; southern spur of the Lodijksche Gat.

Former water in South Beveland, probably created after the floods in the 16th century; occurs on maps from 1631/'32. In 1656 closed off from the outside water by the diking of the Oostpolder (Krabbendijke). Due to silting up of the remaining part, the Maire and Valkenisse polders could be embanked in 1694 on the salt marshes to the south and southwest of this.
