But at least the pillars still stand at the bridge gate, while the other buildings were sacrificed for the practical extraction of building materials in the mid-nineteenth century. In the bridge gate, two stately sandstone pillars are reminiscent of the former function as a city gate. For centuries, it came to pass who wanted to reach the city from the direction of Zerbst, the mouth of the estuary, the shipyard or ferry.

Even today the road is well frequented. Especially cyclists get from this perspective an impression of what to expect in Barby. The ensemble "Prinz", art nouveau villa and the bridge gate with its archaic wall make curious what is to come.
