There were Barbyer city gates that lived up to their name. But at least the pillars still stand at the bridge gate, while the other buildings were sacrificed for the practical extraction of building materials in the mid-nineteenth century. In the bridge gate, two stately sandstone pillars are reminiscent of the former function as a city gate. For centuries, it came to pass who wanted to reach the city from the direction of Zerbst, the mouth of the estuary, the shipyard or ferry.
