Around 1700, the Schmidhausen town hall was built as a residential building in what is now Beilstein. In 1753 half of the half-timbered building was acquired by the Schmidhausen office and converted into the town hall.
Until the incorporation to Beilstein in 1971, the dual use as a town hall and residential building was retained.
The Landgraben running north of Schmidhausen divided what is now Beilstein from the city for about 300 years. Schmidhausen belonged to the County of Löwenstein-Wertheim-Freudenberg, Beilstein to Calw.
