Feltre (325 m) is located west of the Piave river and on the slopes of the Dolomites and, more particularly, of the Vette Feltrine, closed to the south by Mount Tomatico which dominates the Val Belluna imposingly. The most modern districts develop around the oldest historical settlement in the city, clinging to the slopes of a hill (called "Colle delle Capre"). Dante Alighieri mentions Feltre in Paradiso (IX, 52-53) and probably alludes to it in Hell (I, 105).
