The Villa di Meleto in Castelfiorentino, Tuscany, is a historic estate known for its rich history. The estate was once home to the agronomist, politician and professor Cosimo Ridolfi in the 19th century. He introduced ingenious prototypes, inventions and philosophies, which are still documented in his study next to the main hall of the villa.

During the 1900s, more than 80 families lived on the estate, and each contributed to the overall running of the place, which was its own operation. The families harvested grapes and olives in the fields; they brewed wine, olive oil and beer in the cellar; they hunted animals in the surrounding forest and had their own farm; they ate fresh meat at the hands of their personal butcher; they had a tobacco plantation down the road where they harvested, created and distributed tobacco; they prayed in their own church.
