It seems hard to imagine now, with a multitude of taps and flushes in our homes, that there was a time not that long ago where you had to go to a pump to fetch water. However, there are innumerable Victorian (and older) water pumps still standing at village squares and roadsides to remind us. In the mid-1800s, there were three water pumps in Osmington carrying water from the pumping station at nearby Sutton Poyntz. Today, just this one remains.

This old Victorian water pump is the only one of the three that once existed in Osmington. It was recently restored, and it's indeed rare to come across this type of pump nowadays.
