One of those Roman roads that ran through Coriovallum was the Via Belgica. It ran from Boulogne-sur-Mer in France to Cologne in Germany and right through what is now South Limburg. The road brought Roman knowledge, skill and wealth to this area. You can still see and experience that rich heritage. The bench in front of the Vondst is a symbolic part of this.

From viabelgica.eu: Coriovallum derives its existence from its location at the intersection of two major Roman roads, Via Belgica and Via Traiana. At that time Heerlen was already a real industrial city. The many Roman potters' ovens that have been recovered indicate a large production of Roman pottery. Industry developed the city: a considerable settlement arose. There was a bath house, a town hall and huge burial fields around it. Direct and more recent mementos from the Roman era can be found everywhere in present-day Heerlen.
