In documents from 1272 the castle was mentioned as a moated castle with a stone tower, residential and farm buildings. It was in the 8th / 9th Century a Slavic fortification. After the town fire in 1545, the castle was built on these foundation walls in the Renaissance style under Duke Moritz as an economic and hunting castle and a few years later under Elector August it was completed as a four-wing complex with a late Gothic chapel.

The castle was first mentioned in 1272 as "castrum mulberch". At that time still as a moated castle of the Lords of Ileburg, which protected a crossing over the Elbe. ... The castle housed the administration of the Mühlberg district in the following centuries. The castle was a district court, prison and since 1859 the main customs office. Today it is used privately.

The castle was first mentioned in 1272 as "castrum mulberch". At that time still as a moated castle of the Lords of Ileburg, which protected a crossing over the Elbe. After the castle was badly damaged in a town fire, Duke Moritz of Saxony had it rebuilt in 1545 as a Renaissance hunting lodge. Two years later, Moritz was to fight alongside Emperor Charles V at the Battle of Mühlberg.

Unfortunately, today it still looks very much in need of renovation, although two Mexicans bought it in 2018. “Networking spaces, mini lofts, studios, an art gallery, a tavern and organic orchards” are to be created here.

In 1999 the castle was privatized. However, the new owner had little money for the renovation. In 2015, a foreclosure auction was scheduled for 292,000 euros. The purchase price paid by the Mexicans should also be within this range.
