Kätzerode was first mentioned in a document in 889. After the Second World War, the writer Gloger lived with his family in Kätzerode. In 1973 the dilapidated buildings were demolished and one building was converted into a children's holiday camp. In 1984 this building also had to be leveled so as not to provide shelter for those fleeing the Republic.
