The early inhabitants of the Veluwe are referred to as members of the Funnel Beaker culture, based on the shape of the pottery they made. These are the first people to place their dead in burial mounds. There are dozens of burial mounds (tumuli) in the municipality of Ede, some of which have only recently been discovered.
The oldest burial mounds date from the New Stone Age, but most in Ede are somewhat younger than that. They date from the (Middle) Bronze Age (1800 - 1100 BC) Z
