    Zanthier Square is one of the first stops on the Heinrich Heine hiking trail from Ilsenburg towards Brocken. In a clearing there is a memorial stone in honor of the chief forester Hans Dietrich von Zanthier. He was one of the founders of modern forest management and opened the first forestry school in Germany in Ilsenburg around 1764.

    There is also a small shelter at Zanthier Square. However, if you have to take a break here, it is better not to finish the hiking trail until it ends at the Brocken summit.
