Tilsit in the former East Prussia is now called Sowjetsk and is located in Russia. For a few years now there has also been a "Tilsit" in Thurgau, more precisely at the "Holzhof" of the Wartmann family in Bissegg, where a special sign reminds of the birthplace of this Swiss cheese. Otto Wartmann made his first Tilsiter there in 1893, having previously come across this cheese in Tilsit, East Prussia.
