The Wasentor was built in 1248. Based on the age of the wooden beams, one knows that a comprehensive renovation was carried out in 1581. At that time the street was located much lower and strong gates were attached on both sides of the tower. The tower with the city wall has found its continuation on the outside. A drawbridge provided protection for the residents in the event of enemy threats. Strangers shouldn't have been allowed to ride through the gate anyway. They had to get off their horses and enter the city through a small side door.
