The wall of Verga is located at a distance of about 7 km from the city of Kalamata, in Almyros. "Verga" was metaphorically named the linear fortress that was built at the initiative and expense of Mani people to guard the border gate to Kalamata. In the same area there was a similar wall that was built for the same purpose, traces of which are not preserved. It extends along the entire length of the ravine of Almyros, from the sea to a steep and impassable point of the mountain near the village of Kato Selitsa. It is a zigzag masonry wall with plenty of war holes. Its height reached 2m. and was fortified with two fortified towers: west to the sea with a square tower and east to the mountain with round tower with places for cannons. The wall, which survives today half-destroyed, was built in order to repel Ibrahim's army and to prevent the subjugation of Mani. The battle that took place at this point on June 26 and 27, 1826 is very important as it is the first time that Ibrahim's army suffered casualties.
