Beautiful cycle path through the Gessental valley

Here the cycle path leads through an open pasture landscape, which is particularly attractive in spring when the wildflowers are in bloom!

The Gessental is an approx. 7 km long side valley of the Weißen Elster and extends from the Ronneburg plateau to the lower Elsteraue near Gera-Pforten. The brook valley with its side brook, the Lammsbach, cuts into the surrounding landscape up to 70 m deep.
Between 1947 and 1990 upper and z. T. middle Gessental completely changed by the uranium ore mining. The villages of Schmirchau and Gessen disappeared as a result of the construction of the Lichtenberger open-cast mine, and massive interventions were made in the water system.
In 2007, the Gessental, as a green clasp, connected the exhibition areas of the Federal Horticultural Show in Gera and Ronneburg in a unique way.

From Collis to Ronneburg it goes through the Gessental. It goes easy up and down. Variety guaranteed.
