The most beautiful pass on the Route Des Grandes Alpes

It's really not a walk, but the roughly 9 km climb from the south side, from the Col du Lautaret, can also be easily done by MTB. The last kilometer hurts, but the view from the col, including Mont Blanc enthroned in the background, makes up for every drop of sweat.
Once at the top, I recommend visiting the small viewing platform up the beaten path to be able to identify all the surrounding mountains.July 19, 2022
The Col du Galibier is the transition from the Arc valley ("Maurienne") to the Durance valley and to the more southerly passes such as the Col d'Izouard or Col de Vars and the Cote d'Azur. The used North side is clearly heavier with a good 1900 meters.
After the Col du Telegraphe you can fill your bottles again in Valloire - from there it is still 1200 meters in altitude.August 19, 2018
