According to legend, Ganymede, the handsome king's son, was abducted by Zeus to Mount Olympus.Hermann Hubacher's sculpture, completed in 1952, does not depict this abduction. Instead, the artist created a symbol of humanity's longing to reach Olympus.
With his hand raised, Ganymede begs Zeus, the father of the gods (who appears as an eagle), to accept him there.

Ganymede is the name of a sculpture on the Bürkli Terrace, on the side of Bürkliplatz in Zurich facing Lake Zurich.
The sculpture was designed by the artist Hermann Hubacher as the "Abduction to Olympus" and unveiled by the City of Zurich in 1952. It is part of the City of Zurich's Art Collection.
The work depicts the shepherd boy Ganymede, who faces the seated eagle (the god Zeus), to be abducted by him into heaven, where he will serve as cupbearer and bed companion.
Ganymede, from mythological legends, is considered a male ideal of beauty.
