The picturesque moorland village of Danby, in the beautiful Esk Valley, makes for a great base from which to explore the North York Moors National Park. A short walk to the east is the Moors National Park Centre, with various activities for both young and old, as well as lots of information about the surrounding countryside.

There are some fantastic hiking objectives in the region. On a clear day, a hike up to Danby Beacon rewards with excellent views. The 14th-century ruins of Danby Castle are an interesting sight, now part of a working farm. Meanwhile, Duck Bridge, a medieval packhorse crossing, is another fine objective.

In the village, the Duke of Wellington is an ideal place to stay, with rooms and great food. The Fox & Hounds, in neighbouring Ainthorpe is another good option.
