In Saltburn by the Sea you can park your bike for a moment and take a walk on the pier, which opened in 1869. It is 208 meters long and offers you a spectacular view of the beach and the North Sea.
On the way back to the shore, your view will be of the cliffs of Saltburn by the Sea and the Saltburn Cliff Lift installed there. This is a water ballast railway that has been in operation since 1885 and will take you up the cliffs if you don't want to miss the view from up there.

The last pier in Yorkshire :-( Saltburn pier opened in 1869 a few years after the railway arrived at Saltburn and in response to the rise in tourism in the area. It was 460m long and very popular with a steamer pier at the seaward end. In 1875 a gale struck the pier removing 91m of the structure. This left the pier at 380m, it was decided not to replace it and the pier re-opened in 1877.
