Westerdale Head's many little, trickling streams are the source of the River Esk, one of the most important rivers in the North York National Park. The moorland is a sea of purple in late summer and boasts vast open views. As you descend into the valley, the wind whispering through the heather and the cries of moorland birds are the only accompaniment to the sound of burbling streams.
