The town church of St. Nikolai is a Gothic hall church with the carved altar of the Alt Krüssow pilgrimage church. Like the old town hall, the previous tower was destroyed in the flames of 1821.

While the church's restoration progressed rapidly, it was not until 1882 that a spire was erected again.

The church itself dates back to 1230. It had to be expanded as early as 1278, after Pritzwalk had been granted city rights a few years earlier.

It was built again and again for almost 200 years until it reached the dimensions in 1451 that are still impressive today.

The outer walls clearly show how an original field stone church with a brick structure was completed here. Fires repeatedly forced repairs. The late Gothic winged altar from 1250 has been on loan from the Alt Krüssow Church since 1976.
