The castle ruins, located on the high sandstone cliffs of the Höhebge, were one of the largest in Central Germany. At an altitude of 390m above sea level, it towers over the town of Bornhagen-Rimbach in the Thuringian district of Eichsfeld.
At the entrance of the castle there is a small kiosk where you can get food after the ascent (cobblestones). Toilets are also available.

Hanstein Castle RuinsBornhagenHanstein Castle Ruins are one of the most famous and interesting castle complexes in Central Germany. It was built in its current size in 1308 and took 200 years to build. From the walkable north tower you have a wonderful view of the surrounding landscape.
