The Catholic parish church of St. Bartholomäus is as old as the Mainz Cathedral as "Willigis Church", was built around the year 1000 and is therefore one of the oldest village churches in Rheinhessen. It borders directly on the former "Pfaffenhofen" provost's office.

Particularly worth seeing is a mighty Romanesque lintel from the time of origin, which is adorned by two birds of paradise, each holding a fish (symbol for Christ) in its beak and framed by two knotted snakes 🚴‍

    -----------------------------------------------

As part of the Pfaffenhofen provostry that surrounds it, it served from the beginning as a parish church and as a provost church of regional historical importance. As the largest and most important settlement in Rheinhessen, Pfaffenhofen belonged to the famous imperial monastery of St. Maximin in Trier. The baroque main house from 1709 with decorative stucco ceilings and richly carved rococo door as well as a late baroque garden pavilion in the well-preserved monastery garden are still preserved. After secularization, it was used as a sugar factory, then as the Hessian state domain, for a long time as an agricultural good and since 1951 as a research center for the pharmaceutical industry.
