The joking designation of the Alstätter as "sand hares" is probably due to an event on October 14, 1806.
On these days, later referred to as "big lopdag", due to a rumor that the Prussians were about to raise soldiers, the citizens of Alstatt started fleeing towards Holland. The hurrying away like the "rabbits"
Alstatt men sometimes only returned after days.
The children playing in a circle, some of them making music, point to the traditional one
large number of children and the large crowd of musicians in Alstätte.
