In Amberg you can travel back in time to the Middle Ages. Feel history. A moat, an outer and an inner city wall with almost one hundred doors and gates made Amberg impregnable for centuries and earned it the title of “most solid royal city”. The fortification is almost three kilometers long and is almost completely preserved today. The old town is thus one of the best preserved medieval city complexes in Europe.

Amberg is one of the few larger cities where most of the city wall that has existed since the Middle Ages can still be seen. At the same time, the complete structure of the defensive ring with the enclosure, moat and fortress gates has been preserved in most places, while in some places the former walls and towers have clearly been converted into residential buildings. A tour of the old town is therefore very interesting and an absolute tip.
