Small chapels are quite often erected in memory of an event, of a person or both. This is a moving witness raised in memory of the maquisards (the Shadow Fighters) who, during World War II, refused tyranny.
The small commemorative building stands between the village of Orchimont and the hamlet of Conrad.
The story would be as follows:
On September 2, 1944, the volunteers of the Secret Army opposed the German Panzergrenadiers. A young Flemish scholar, Jean Daelemans, who had just joined the Ardennes maquis, was killed at this place, curiously called “useful path”.
In 1949, his widow who was herself a nurse in the bush had a chapel built where she had lost her young husband of 23 years.
In the chapel (unfortunately closed) is a plaque which takes the name of the 20 guerrillas who fell on the field of honor.
Every year around August, a commemorative ceremony would be organized.
