The castle was built in the 12th century; Today it houses a hotel/restaurant and two museums: the House of Franconian History and the Lace Museum. The inner courtyard of the castle is freely accessible (no admission required), as is the tournament field below, where concerts occasionally take place. In a niche in the castle wall sits a bronze figure of the minstrel Wolfram von Eschenbach with a lute. Through the window of his niche you have a wide view of the country.
