The Protestant church in Niederwald was built in just two years in 1850 on the remains of a previous sandstone building. Since Niederwald was settled in a damp and swampy area, the load-bearing walls of the stone church, which is comparatively large and heavy for a small village, had to be built on oak piles. Next to the church is a beautiful, tree-covered church garden that is used for community activities.
