It is believed that there was a wooden church on the current site as early as 900. In 1058, Bishop Gundekar II of Eichstätt consecrated an altar that stood in the basement of the tower of the first stone church. Around 1450 the Gothic choir was added and in 1707 the church got its present appearance.
