The whole ridge from the Bastei over the Zankelstein further east is absolutely worth a trip. You can actually only get to the benches with a bit of agility. It's very nice up there in autumn too.

The bastion of Pommelsbrunn or Zankelstein is a rock group near Pommelsbrunn in the central Franconian district of Nürnberger Land, in the federal state of Bavaria in Germany. It is designated as geotope 574R012 and natural monument.
On the south and southeast side of the Zankelstein, three rock towers rise out of the forest, serving as popular lookout cliffs.

From the bastion you have a wonderful view of the Pegnitz Valley, the needles of the Zankelstein are worth seeing.

Beautiful climbing rock above Pommelsbrunn. The lookout point of the Bastei is 100 meters next to it. In good weather you can see as far as Nuremberg.

nice view. But very busy on a Sunday so it is better to go on another day. Especially if you want to go straight to the Zankelstein.

To get to the rock you have to climb a bit and you should be free from giddiness. You will be rewarded with a wonderful view of the valley.
