There are several mountains in Ireland named Seefin, but this one resides in the Wicklow Mountains in the east. At 2,037 ft (621 m), it’s hardly one of the country’s highest but it does hold something quite spectacular on its summit – a passage tomb. Seefin and it’s immediate neighbour, Seefingan, both have extraordinary passage tombs on their summits, but you can enter the one on Seefin, if you dare.

It’s quite straightforward to reach the summit, thanks to a car park just off the lane to the mountain’s south west. The trail leads you first through conifer woodland and then up the moorland mountainside to the top. There’s another car park to the south, which is particularly useful if you want to summit Seefingan as well.

You can enter the passage tomb through a narrow entrance but even from the outside it’s tremendously impressive. Built around 5,000 years ago, no remains have ever been found there.

Tips

  • Seefin Passage Tomb is a passage grave and National Monument located atop Seefin Hill, County Wicklow, Ireland. This tomb of stands on top of a 621m high mountain in North Wicklow. It must have been a tad difficult to build it during the neolithic times! Nearby Seefingan and Seahan has similar tombs.
