It is located within the Augsburg City Forest, the city's largest contiguous forest area, which also serves as a drinking water protection area. The Klausenkopf is a natural elevation of gravel and sand formed by the Lech Glacier during the last Ice Age. Such gravel ridges or old moraine remnants are typical geological witnesses to the Ice Age in the Lech region.
