The carved rocks of Rothéneuf are monumental sculptures made directly in the granite of the cliff. They were created between 1894 and early 1907 by Father Adolphe Julien Fouéré, known as Father Fouré (1839-1910).

After a stroke, priest Adolphe-Julien Fouéré alias "Abbé Fouré" carved in rocks for 25 years (from 1870) the story of the terrible Rothéneuf family, a motley crew of privateers, smugglers and beach robbers, who misled ships so that they were wrecked were running and the cargo could be seized. Eventually, nearly 300 figures would be immortalized in the granite. Enjoy this amazing example of Breton "art brut".

(Note closing at noon, I was unlucky.)

Small beach with (free) access to the Rochers Sculptés in the evening after the tourist entrance gate (€2.50) closes. You can walk your bike along the GR34 trail to the cliff and walk down to the beach; the life-size sculptures are on the cliffs to the left. Great views of the Chapel to the right.

The Rochers Sculptés at Rothéneuf were cut directly into the granite of the cliffs from 1894 to 1907 by Abbé Adolphe Julien Fouéré, called Abbé Fouré (1839-1910).
