At the Weichelsee, nature conservation takes a back seat to recreational use - the Mühlenbachsee, located on the same aquifer a few km above, is strictly protected and does not allow access or use by visitors. Both lakes were created during the construction of the B75 as a bypass for Rotenburg. Even if the Weichelsee is therefore not under nature protection, it is impressive how many animals and plants can claim their share even under these circumstances. Unfortunately it is often very noisy due to the routing of the main road.
