The Fancsikai Lakes, established in the Erdőspuszta area east of Debrecen, have become a popular and frequently visited fishing water for both Debrecen and distant anglers. The 90-hectare Fancsika I. and the 25-hectare Fancsika II. Reservoirs can be reached on the Panorama Road. Since 2017, the Fancsikai Lakes have been classified as “white water,” which means that state-defined regulations apply to fishing on the lakes.
The Fancsikai Lakes were created in 1975-1976 for lovers of fishing. To create reservoirs, it was necessary to look for places where there were water-level, reedy, marshy areas. It was necessary to look for such places so that the lakes to be built could not only receive water from the canals flowing through them, but also from the soil itself. When looking for the location of the lakes, the amount of earthworks to be done was also taken into account. Attempts have been made to design the shorelines of the reservoirs in such a way as to create as few artificial embankments as possible and to have more natural shorelines already given by the topography. Originally, Lakes I and III would have been just watersheds without any tourist function. The reclassification of Fancsika Lakes I and III as "Welfare Lakes" took place only after eliminating their insecure water supply and connecting the Halápi and Gúthi watercourses to the Kati River Basin. This ensures a more stable water supply. The construction cost of the Fancsika I reservoir (Lake Báltisztai) at that time was HUF 6.9 million. It covers an area of 90 ha and has a maximum water storage capacity of 1.2 million cubic meters.
