The Siega de Valzanca is a hydraulic sawmill in the Venetian style, which was in operation until the 1950s. A few years ago, it was renovated and put back into operation by the Paneveggio Pale di San Martino Natural Park. Here you can experience up close how the wood was processed. The history of the siega begins in 1870 when a timber merchant from Canal San Bovo Crisanto Orsingher Andelon takes care of its construction, the place is right, from here the timber transported to the valley floor passes and the appropriate historical moment. However, when the twenties of the twentieth century were reached, the situation radically changed, the Great War ended, which left further misery and poverty in Vanoi and Orsingher sold, the buyer was the Municipality of Canal San Bovo, which also hired the saws. years are propitious: it is necessary to rebuild and start again. Another war, people migrate, the world changes again, it's the 1950s and the sawmill is no longer profitable, machinery is removed, over time the roof collapses on itself and the area becomes a sort of landfill. When the establishment of the Ethnographic Path was decided at the end of the nineties, the ancient siega also comes back to memory and with the funds of the European Community we start to rebuild it in the area where it was thanks to the testimony of those who had worked there and he had kept vivid memories of those times and works.
