The Etz chapel was built in 1706 as a foundation by the then Pastor Sailler. The chapel quickly became a meeting point for pilgrims from the direction of Altötting, who all went from here to the pilgrimage church of Maria Dorfen on the Ruprechtsberg. Throughout the 18th century, the Etz chapel was a welcome place to rest and say goodbye for the residents of Altötting, but increasingly also for Kreuzleute villagers and individual pilgrims who made a pilgrimage to Altötting.
