Tanzenberg Castle was first mentioned in documents in 1300 and fell into disrepair in the 19th century. In 1898 the complex was renovated and converted into a monastery building.
Today the castle belongs to the Diocese of Gurk. The buildings are used as a humanistic and modern language high school, the federal high school and Marianum Tanzenberg.
