Ancient mill still in operation in a context worthy of a short detour to be able to admire it
March 2, 2021
In the enchanting valley floor carved by the Breggia River stands the Bruzella Mill, an ancient millstone restored and in operation since 1996, when it resumed its activity as a mill. It can be reached from Bruzella or Cabbio in 15 minutes on foot along the old mule track that starts from the cantonal road. The Bruzella Mill is regularly operated thanks to the experience of millers Irene Petraglio and Giuseppe Bernasconi. A visit allows you to understand the workings of this large machine and its components: water intake, irrigation ditch, iron wheel with casings, transmission mechanism, hopper, and flour sieve. The building attached to the mill houses the permanent exhibition curated by the architect Thomas Meyer: From the Mill to the Paper Mill, an investigation into the art of milling and the hydraulic machines of Breggia.
The mill is usually open in the afternoons on Wednesdays, Thursdays and three Sundays from April to October.
