European history was written in this place. The stone is named after the French ambassador to Prussia, Vincent Graf Benedetti. On July 13, 1870, he met the Prussian King Wilhelm I, who was in Bad Ems for treatment, and delivered demands from the French government. The content of the interview was transmitted to Berlin as "Ems Depesche" and later led to the declaration of war by France against Prussia.
