The palace administration referred the matter to the Duke. The Duke rejected the request, arguing that Löhlein had failed to comply with the conditions for preserving the building. On February 18, 1856, Ernst II decreed that the Hunter's Rest be demolished or otherwise disposed of as he saw fit.
