By 1850, the Duke of Coburg had no further use for his "Jägersruh" (hunting lodge) near Bad Rodach. Now a descendant has bought it back and converted it into a holiday home.

The Hunter's Rest was built at about the same time as the palace. As part of the reforms following the revolution of 1848/1849, Ernst II renounced the hunting rights that had previously belonged to him alone and transferred "the local high and low hunting" to the town of Rodach. The Hunter's Rest and its household goods were leased to the merchant Löhlein for several years to the highest bidder. The condition was that he cover the costs of repairs to the building. On May 24, 1853, Löhlein informed the palace administration that he wished to withdraw from the lease agreement with half the rent, as he no longer used the Hunter's Rest. The palace administration referred the matter to the Duke. The Duke rejected the request, arguing that Löhlein had failed to comply with the conditions for preserving the building. On February 18, 1856, Ernst II decreed that the Hunter's Rest be demolished or otherwise disposed of as he saw fit.

Former excursion guest restaurant. Now weekend house and eternal construction site. Charming location in the middle of the forest.

Now stylishly renovated and probably privately owned - but still a wonderful building. A little further back the paths cross and you can do some great circular tours. Tip: from here to the Tippachquelle and past the Spanierteiche to Gauerstadt.
