Northeast of Aarle-Rixtel, a large building towers over the Brabant farmland. Between the fields lies the Missionary Monastery of the Holy Blood. The congregation originated in South Africa at the end of the nineteenth century and did a lot of missionary work. From the monastery in Aarle-Rixtel, hundreds of sisters left for different continents. Not all sisters entered the mission. The inhabitants of Aarle-Rixtel mainly got to know the sisters through their work in the area. They worked in district nursing, elderly care and gave music lessons.
