The Quadrilateral was, between 1815 and 1866, a defensive system built by the Austrian Empire in Lombardy-Veneto, which spread over a quadrilateral whose vertices were the fortresses of Peschiera del Garda, Mantua, Legnago and Verona, between the Mincio, the Po, the Adige and from around 1850 the Milan-Venice railway, through which supplies were guaranteed. Difficult to circumvent, it hindered the movements of enemy troops in the Po Valley.
