The Marcigliana reserve is one of the largest in the Capitoline area. The landscape is mostly agricultural, characterized by fields and pastures with some rare woods. Here in ancient times stood the Latin city of Crustumerium. Subsequently, various Roman villas were built in the area on the ruins of which, in medieval times, farmhouses arose, in some cases fortified with defensive towers. Some of these farmhouses are still visible and accessible today.
