Long Point Lighthouse stands at the very tip of Cape Cod; this lighthouse marks the furthest you can walk in the entire state! The first lighthouse built at this site was actually not a tower, but rather, it was octagonal lantern at the peak of the wooden keeper's house. It was rebuilt in 1875 to the more traditional tower structure that still stands today. From the 1830s-1850s there was actually the small village of Long Point by the lighthouse on this tiny strip of land. There was even a bakery, a post office, and a schoolhouse! Today only the light tower and an oil house from 1904 still stand on Long Point, which is now part of the Cape Cod National Seashore. Long Point Lighthouse is an iconic, remote-feeling place to visit. From this beautiful, dune-covered point you get fantastic views of the entire lower Cape and out to the Atlantic ocean. You can frequently see seals in the water from the beach, and encounter dozens of different seabirds that make the shores their home.

It's a long, sandy walk out to the lighthouse, past the stone breakwater. Beautiful spot but despite it's closeness to town it feels like wilderness. In the summer you can hire a water taxi to go out
