This property was originally a fief of Saint Bavo's Abbey in Ghent.
The oldest known owner was the Ghent patrician B. Van Der Spiegele. He used it as a summer residence.
In the 14th century it came into the hands of the well-known Ghent patrician family Borluut. When in 1585 Philipotte Borluut married Joos Borluut, knight and lord of Sint-Denijs-Boekel, it got its name 'Ten Boekel'.
Despite 18th-century alterations and a major restoration in 1895, the castle retained its medieval character.
Goed Ten Boekel also has 18th-century service buildings, a house chapel from 1787 and a pigeon tower. Protected since 1997.
