The sandstone monument on the Asterstein, visible from afar, commemorates the soldiers of the Royal Prussian VIII Army Corps who fell in the Austro-Prussian War of 1866. The obelisk was erected by officers in honorable remembrance of their comrades.
From here, there is an impressive panoramic view of Koblenz, the Rhine, the Pfaffendorf Bridge, and across to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress – a tranquil place steeped in history and offering breathtaking views.
