According to legend, the people of Molchow once found a broken bell, took pity on it, and built a tower for it.Since there was no church in the circular village in Brandenburg, this somewhat bizarre-looking wooden structure now stands in the middle of the village on a square fieldstone base. Molchow's landmark was described in detail by Theodor Fontane in his Wanderings through the Mark Brandenburg. In his honor, a bright yellow Fontane statue, created by the artist Ottmar Hörl, has stood guard at the foot of the tower since 2017. However, this is now a replacement, as the original was stolen last year, much to the horror of the Molchow residents.
