At the beginning of the 17th century, a tunnel was driven through the Tuffbarre to periodically drain the lake in favor of fishing. In 1821, the lake was finally drained for building land reclamation. The Seeburger Kalktuff was dismantled and used as building material. So one can admire the Seeburger Kalktuff today at many representative buildings. These include, for example, the Stuttgart Castle and the Strasbourg Cathedral.
